FAQs

Q:   What does participation on the part of the families involve?

A:   Parents will be asked to complete behavioral ratings describing their child and to grant permission for teachers to complete similar ratings.   Based on these ratings, a subset of families will be selected to come to Queens College (Flushing, NY) for a comprehensive evaluation of their child's cognitive and behavioral functioning.   Families will be re-contacted every six months to provide updated information.

Q: What are the benefits of participating in the Queens College Preschool Project?

A: Families who participate in the on-campus assessment may request written reports outlining their child's evaluation results, and will be given the opportunity to schedule feedback sessions to discuss the findings with our staff. Society will benefit from increased knowledge about the early manifestations of ADHD.

Q: Who will have access to information gathered in the Queens College Preschool Project?

A: All information will be kept confidential to the fullest extent permitted by law. No names or identifying characteristics will be released without parental consent.

Q: What does participation on the part of healthcare providers involve?

A: The QCPP can serve as a valuable resource to community practitioners who refer children for assessment by providing comprehensive psychological evaluations at no cost to families.   Treatment providers (with parental consent) will also have the opportunity to receive feedback regarding the results of our evaluation, along with our clinical recommendations.

Q:   What does participation on the part of school personnel involve?

A:   Preschools serve as a pivotal link between families and QCPP staff. Assistance from preschools will enable us to distribute materials to families, and permit us to gather teacher ratings of child behaviors over time. As a token of our appreciation, participating schools will be provided with small thank you gifts for classrooms.
